Campus Grants
for
Students
This announcement describes internal grants available to faculty, staff, and students of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The purpose of these internal grants is to:
ü Promote our research, scholarship, instruction, and public service mission through increased external grant and contract support by providing seed and matching funds.
ü Promote and support research and scholarship where external funding is not readily available.
ü Enrich the educational experiences of our students by fostering faculty research and scholarship, providing research experiences for students, and supporting educational enhancements.
For more information, contact the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, 593‑5468, FAX 593-0526,
e-mail: dbn-research@umd.umich.edu or visit the UM-Dearborn research website at:

Note: The University of Michigan has changed the process and policies for research stipends and additional pay. As a result, fringe benefit charges of about 28% will be taken out of any faculty stipend payment. The Research Office regrets this but budget constraints prevent these costs from being absorbed by the Campus Grant funds.
GRANTS FOR RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY
Undergraduate Research Fellowships
Deadline: February 15
PURPOSE: The Campus Grants Program provides up to eight fellowship stipends of $2,500 to UM-Dearborn undergraduate students whose academic record demonstrates preparedness and commitment to excellence who are invited by a UM-Dearborn faculty advisor to conduct independent research under their direction.

· The importance of project to the student’s undergraduate experience at UMD
· The student’s academic preparedness and dedication to excellence and the likelihood he or she will graduate from UMD
· The merit and quality of the proposal
· The distribution of awards across units
Applications are evaluated by the Research Support Committee of the Faculty Senate usually within five weeks of the deadlines shown.
ALLOWABLE COSTS: The fellowship will be paid to the student in two payments, one at the start of the project and the final payment upon receipt of the Final Assessment (see below).

This final assessment (like an “exit interview” or a debriefing) should describe what went well and what did not. Upon receipt of the final assessment from the student, the faculty advisor will be asked to verify that the student completed the required effort.
Normally students are expected to devote fulltime effort on the project for 8 weeks in the summer; students should not be enrolled in courses during this time; students will not receive academic credit for this work. Projects of shorter duration and those offered during the academic year will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Exceptions must be approved in writing prior to the award of the fellowship.
